NOTES (Haha, you thought I wouldn't post them, didn't you? I just said that to scare you guys :D But you guys have really gotten lazy...)

Native Americans (Incas, Aztecs)

- Many tribes w/ different cultures: Iroquois, Aztecs, Mayans, Incas.
- Many NA died from illnesses received from Europeans.
- Arrived in America by crossing Bering Strait.
- Nomadic and Farming Indian Tribes.
- Westward Expansion (1800s - Indian Reservations)
- Incas flourished in Andes Mountains
- Largest Empire
- Inca Gov. is similar to Roman Gov.
- Roads and bridges connected the Empire.
- Quechua Language for Incas.
- Amazing architects.
- Incas chose to try to persuade other tribes to join them first, instead of attacking first.
- Gave promises of peace and protection to tribes, and let children go to school. If countries refused, they would be killed or enslaved.
- 1532: Fransico Pizaaro (Conquistador) destroyed Inca society due to his weapons (guns, swords, etc.)
- Present day Columbia to Chile.
- Fearsome army.
- Mita: few months required to do public work, such as work on bridges.
- Aztec - powerful society conquered Mesoamerica.
- Weren't really called Aztecs.
- Not one single unified empire.
- Nahuatl Language.
- 3 Most Powerful Tribes Allied.
- Conquered People were allowed to rule themselves as long as they paid taxes/tributes.
- Thriving Trade and Commerce - liked poetry and songs.
- Tlachtli: sport. Losers were sacrificed.
- Human sacrifices.
- Gods sacrificed themselves to create universe.
- Sacrificed prisoners of war.
- Cortes was thought to be a God in human form.
- Cortes formed alliances with the bitter enemies of Aztecs.
- Aztecs mostly killed off by smallpox.
- Cortes easily captures Aztec Empire Capital, Tenochtitlan.
