  2. To eighth graders: Consider the type of person you are before making your decision to go a specialized high school. Are you already an achiever in middle school, or are you middle of the class that got lucky on the SHSAT? Stuyvesant (and I can probably assume the same for the majority of specialized high schools) isn't really that worth going to. The competition is cut-throat and the workload is intense. I'm not trying to discourage you from going to a great school, but do you think you have a chance of being top of the class at a specialized high school? If not, you'll be one of those mediocre students in a specialized h.s. who suffer for 4 years and end up going to a local college, or less than prestigious one (by mediocre I mean low 90 average; only about 30-50 students per grade get above 95 in Stuy w/ a real shot at a prominent college; if you can't make 90, as most in Stuy cannot, then you have almost no chance). Only the top 50 or so students really make it to the prominent colleges. So think deeply about how you want your next 4 years to be. It can be really hard with a really high chance of being outperformed (specialized h.s.) or it can be really easy and you'll probably graduate top of your class with a good shot at a good college (nonspecialized h.s.).

Extra things you might want to consider: Chances are you will wake up at 6AM and commute for at least an hour, standing. Homework takes forever, especially when piled on top of extra-curriculars. The majority of good students (94+) stay up really late, past 12AM, sometimes to 2 or 3, and some don't sleep. Those who sleep at 10PM and wake up at 7-8AM have it too good and chances are they have a low 80 average.

Sorry for spamming, but I really want to get my point across.

  4. I for one think Anonymous 2 is very wrong. Firstof all. The test is really hard for some. If you don't do goo din the school, THEN YOU WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN IN ANY WAY! Thats why theres a freaking test, to see if u can handle the shit at the school. If you think that Some1 who gets in isnt gonna be one of the top, your wrong. Cause they go in for an obvious reason, they-re smart. And Anyway, everyone should be able to get into any highschool. It's mainly based on what u know. So if some1 can help u learn everything on the test, all the rest is up to you. Dont be discouraged. Staying up late proves your dedication and how hard you work and how improved your life will be when you are older! Do the work now and dont suffer later on. Yeah, you'll probably have trouble for the next 4 years, But I think thats better than the rest of your life. All I know is that I want to be one of those ppl on forbes or some1 who retires earlier than most people. I dont want to work in Mcdonald's or even be a doctor. I'd just like to do good In school and accomplish my goal When im older. Bengali parents want the best for you. Any parents actually. So dont listen to that douche up there ^. Listen to yourself! ~Sean (Yes this was Sean) :)

  7. I wasn't trying to create an argue. I actually copied that from yahoo answers .

The test doesn't relate to handling school issues. It shows how good u r at scrambled paragraphs, logical reasoning, reading comprehension's, and math problems. Who knows some people might evn get lucky on the test. How does that show what type of student u r? There are many kids in our class that are lazy buh mad smart. And i wasn't forcing anyone. I just saw it on yahoo answers and wanted to show it to everyone. Why the hell did u start reacting out of no where -_____-

  12. I probably agree with both sides. If you know you don't want to go to the school & doing this for your parents purposes don't go. I mean, it's a great oppurtunity, you don't live to please your parents. They probably want the best for you but i'm pretty sure you would know what you want to do with your life better than them. It might seem a little rough now but we all have plans ready for our future right? Just because you don't go to a specialized does not mean you can't become successful. A good school is great for records, but personally being top on an average highschool is better than competitive & pressure in a specialized highschool. Specialized highschool's are ridiculous. You could be the laziest & most unprepared brat ever & get in bcus you have skills to complete some scrambled paragraphs and a few math questions. There is nothing to be proud of if you get into Stuy unless you really put the efforts in. If you get it, you should definitely be prepared for some hardcore work & that means no procrastination. It is a lot of pressure in specialized but in a way it's worth, it depends what kind of person you are. I'd actually suggest to go for townsend. Still a amazing school but not as hard. It might not live up to the standards for your parents, but in reality there are both pretty good schools. I mean, the decision is up to you what highschool you go to. Take a risk & go to the highschool you want, or please your parents & go for specialized. & if you really want to go to a specialized, good luck & hope you succeed. ^_^

  13. Townsend is actually tougher than Stuy which in some ways is better 'cause that would mean when you DO get good grades, you actually put some effort to get that grade. It won't be because you cheated off someone else's test or you had a cheat sheet. I'm sure the teachers at Townsend are smart enough to realize that you're cheating. There aren't non-straight or lazy teachers there (I hope, ok maybe not so much for the lazy teachers part. I WANT a lazy teacher, but that would mean no effort so when you go to college and expect good grades, you'll be shocked and go off an edge off a cliff going like," AIEEEE!!!!!") <-- But other than thaaat, lol, yaaaahhhh.

YOU GOTTA BE A SMARTA** IF YOU THINK YOU CAN WORK YOUR BUTT OFF IN A SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL.
