Museum Artifact Project
100 points
When you go to a museum, you see many different artifacts, pictures and paintings. Each of these artifacts is accompanies by a plaque explaining the historical signifigance of the object as well as some background history on the piece/event.

We are going to mimic this format for our Information Writing piece for Marking Period 2. You must pick one of the topics we have been researching during this “Age of Imperialism”. The topics you can choose from are America’s Imperialism in Hawaii OR China OR Philippines OR Cuba OR Puerto Rico OR Panama OR America in the Spanish-American War.

Once you have decided on your topic, you must find a picture that represents this event. Be sure to explain why the picture is important/what it is showing.

You will then write a MINIMUM 3 paragraph INFORMATIONAL essay in which you:
  • Define Imperialism
  • Discuss this event in detail (what happened? Who was involved? Why is it important? How does it show America being imperialistic?)
  • Explain the effect of Imperialism on this area of the world (i.e. the effect of American imperialism on Hawaii)
Additionally:
  • You must maintain a formal writing style and tone
  • Your essay must be organized
  • Use relevant facts, quotes and ideas to support your information
  • Use appropriate vocabulary (i.e. “yellow journalism” when discussing the Spanish-American War)
  • Use historically accurate information
